SEA OF READERS TAKE HOME READER CAMPAIGN
GUIDELINES:
· Make a Take Home Book each week
· Draw your hand on the last page of the book
· Read your book 5 times each week to your family or friends.
· Have each person you read your book to sign a finger on your hand.
Complete the School to Homework Activity Page
· If you have read 5 books by the end of the first grading period you get to attend the Sea of Readers celebration. (2nd grading period - 6 books, 3rd grading period - 7 books and 4th grading period - 8 books)
The SEA OF READERS supports the Indiana Academic Standards
1.2 Follow words from left to right and from top to bottom on the printed page.
1.3 Understand that printed materials provide information.
1.4 Recognize that sentences in print are made up of separate words.
1.9 Blend consonant-vowel-consonant sounds aloud to make words.
1.15 Read one-syllable and high frequency words by sight.
1.16 Use self-correcting strategies when reading simple sentences.
1.18 Understand the alphabetic principle, which means that as letters in words change, so do the sounds.
