JCSC ELearning Survey

What is a JCSC eLearning Day?

An eLearning Day is a virtual learning opportunity for JCSC students that allows them to complete their academic assignments outside of the traditional school location and time period during inclement weather.  A JCSC eLearning Day could occur on a scheduled make-up day or on the actual day of bad weather. By taking advantage of the virtual learning opportunity from the IDOE, during the 2016-2017 school year JCSC students will be able to participate in eLearning days allowing virtual days to count on the school calendar.  During an eLearning day, students will be practicing skills that are necessary for future success in the workplace.  Teachers will have virtual tools (e.g. phone, email, digital tools like Google Classroom) to guide instruction and answer questions throughout the day. During a JCSC eLearning Day, students will have full access to online instruction provided by each students' individual teachers.

Superintendent Terry Sargent Announces Retirement

After six years of leading the Jennings County School Corporation, Superintendent Terry Sargent will be retiring at the end of the 2016-17 school year. By next spring, Dr. Sargent will have served in leadership positions in education within the State of Indiana for over 31 years, for a total of 42 years in education. He began his career teaching social studies and coaching, first in the Lakeland Schools (Lagrange County) and then in the Jennings County Schools before taking an administrative position with Purdue University in 1986. He went on to serve as an award-winning high school principal at South Decatur and Logansport High Schools, before becoming superintendent of Southwestern Schools (Shelby County) in 2006. In 2011, Dr. Sargent accepted appointment to the position of superintendent for the Jennings County Schools. He also served for 16 years (1995-2011) as a member of the adjunct faculty in graduate education at Indiana Wesleyan University.

The JCSC Board of School Trustees has begun their search for Dr. Sargent’s replacement. They are conducting their search with the assistance of the University Search Team, a service offered to Indiana public school corporations by faculty members in the schools of education at Ball State University, Indiana University, Indiana State University, and Purdue University. The Board hopes to name the next superintendent by mid-fall, and he/she would begin her/his new duties on July 1, 2017.
